A late 19th century set of “Mahomet and his Successors” by Washington Irving. Irving is credited with having perfected the short story form, and is best known for his short stories “Rip Van Winkle” and “Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” He also wrote biographies of Oliver Goldsmith and George Washington.
