Greer was from Chicago and is best known for his portraits of women; however, he experimented with a variety of artistic mediums and subjects throughout his life. Provided illustrations for this 1887 publication of the “Rock of Ages” Christian hymn when he was in his late 30s. Most of Freer’s paintings are in museums in Chicago and New York.
